Are you inspecting rental properties in Sydney at the moment, or about to? The good news is that there’s plenty of choice currently when it comes to finding a new rental – so how do you narrow down the list? Our Bondi Junction real estate agents have put together a quick checklist to help you find a new home that will be conveniently placed and a pleasure to live in. Here’s what to look for:
Local amenities within walking or biking distance
It can be worth looking at a map and scoping out exactly where a rental property is located. How far will you be living from work, shops, your gym, the city, medical facilities, your usual social hangouts and the beach? If you’ll be able to pick up a loaf of bread easily, for example, then life will be far simpler with less stress.
A short and convenient commute
We spend around one third of our lives at work, and a fair amount of time travelling to and from work! Choosing the right rental property with a short commute can free up precious minutes in your day that you can use for something more fun. Doing a quick Google Maps search from the property to your workplace can tell you what type of commute you’ll be able to expect.
A clean and well maintained property
It’s important not to just go off the listing photos, but also pay attention at the property inspection. Is the heating and cooling in good working order? Are the fly screens intact? Do all the cupboard doors open and close, and how noise proof is the house? This type of property check might seem excessive to some, but these details can make a big difference to everyday living.
Parking (if you need it)
Parking can be a key factor in Sydney. Will you be able to park at your home, or will you need a parking permit for the street? If you will be street parking, it’s worth taking a look at local parking signage to check you won’t need to drive in circles to find a spot every day. A property with undercover, secure private parking can be a real score in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
Your own green space or views
If 2020 has taught us anything it’s that we should have some beauty close to home. A rental property where you’ll have your own garden, courtyard or balcony can bring a lot of joy to sunny mornings and lazy afternoons. If you love gardening and the satisfaction it can bring, this can be easily done in pots on a balcony, in a sunny corner of a living space or in a backyard garden.
